    Natsuki Takaya, Fruits Basket, vol. 3 (Tokyopop, 2000)

    After a quick re-read of vol. 2 to get my head back into the right place, I decided to continue on with Fruits Basket and see if I liked it any more than I did the first time I tried the series a few years ago. I started reading manga with Fruits Basket and Tarot Cafe, and I wasn’t very impressed with either of them. I now realize this is because they’re not for beginners; manga conventions are such that, at times, an entire issue of a manga can seem like an in-joke, and an artist’s style can be such that most of the characters look similar, if not identical. Takaya and Sang-Son Park (of Tarot Cafe) have both these traits (I’m not sure I can call them drawbacks, but you know) in spades. Now that I have a lot more manga experience under my belt, this is a little easier going, but I’m still having problems telling some characters apart (though Takaya has hinted that in at least one case, this is intentional), and it keeps me from fully immersing myself in the story. I’m going to keep on with it, but where shojo is concerned, I have to say Godchild and Fushigi Yugi really do seem to do it better. ***

    Fruits Basket in general is a touching series that really makes you look at yourself–when you see what these people go through, and see that they can still smile, you’ll wonder if crying was/is ever worth it in the first place. (But of course, we all don’t have a cute little bordering house-maid to give us the wisdom we need in those times. )Anyways. The book can be described in a few words; really sweet. In this book we meet a new character, Hatsuharu Sohma(though you may have seen a little of him in number 2), who has a 2 sided personality. That’s all I know–I have yet to buy the book. But if *I* like it so much without even having seen it, then who says YOU won’t like it either?Fruits Basket just have something special about it. It’s like a parasite–it weasels into you and embeds itself into your heart. I think everyone can find something they like about it, even male otakus(otaku=anime fans, though not all are pale-faced doughballs). . . Now. Go. Now. Grab all the money you have and waste it(heh) on Furuba(Fruits Basket) stuff. OR YOU SHALL DIE WITH THE HAUNTING KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU MISSED OUT ON SOMETHING GREAT. Heh-heh-heh. Bye. ^^;

    If you love mangas and love a story that gives you every emotion a story can give you, then this is the book for you. The main part of the story is comedy but it does have a lot of other emotions to it and there are a lot of plot eliments that will keep you wanting to read. I don’t want to give anything away so I wont, you’ll just have to read it. ^_^

    This is my favorite book in the series (I have read 12). Before I start my review I just want to say that the whole series is fantastic so dont stop reading at this book!
    . . now. . .
    in this book you get to meet the ever mysterious and poliete hatsuharu, or haru. haru is an amazing character, he is kind and considerate . . . BUT. . . his zodiac sign gives him a split personality, and you REALLY dont want to be around him when he “snaps”, read the book to find out why!
    another part i love this book for is its VALENTINES DAY! yuki of course gets lots of chocolates, but hanajima claims his chocolate (muh ha ha). now if kyo actually got a calendar he would know that it was valentines day and he wouldnt run into his “girlfriend” aka the ever so fantastic KAGURA! *cheers*. . you get to see how she handles valentines day =P

    well if you made it through my review i have one more thing to tell you, BUY IT, BUY IT!!! the pictures are fantastic and you will be able to laugh as much as i did when i read it!

    Yay! In this volume, we get to meet Hatsuharu Sohma, one of my favorite characters. He’s so quirky and offbeat- a great guy!
    The best thing about this volume is the story Momiji tells Yuki, Tohru, and Kyo: “The most foolish traveler in the world. . . ” This just about sums up the moral of the manga- always look on the bright side of life! But it’s also very bittersweet, because it’s reminding us that life is harsh, no matter how hard we try to be optimistic. . .
